Open letter to state legislators

You are being lied to and insulted! The opponents of the Convention of States are lying to you and/or insulting you, your competence and your intelligence.

On the one hand, the opposition (John Birch Society mostly) tell you that your Revolutionary era colleagues held an unlawful or runaway convention that produced a document (the US Constitution) in direct opposition to what Congress had sent them there to debate. Congress did not send these state delegates, the states chose them and sent them at the urging of other states. Secondly, Revise means to look at something again...the delegates did and found the Articles of Confederation could not be suitably changed to accomplish their task...to get them a document that would the plan to adequately govern the nation.

And now for the insult part. The opposition tells you that you, and your colleagues will not be able to control a national committee meeting to discuss an agenda and also that you, and your colleagues, will blindly ratify any proposal that comes out of convention, even if the impossible happens and the commissioners at convention go off the rails to propose amendments outside the bounds of the agenda.

The Convention of States people, on the other hand, are informing you of a very power constitutional role you have. You have the power to control the federal government! By using the second option of Article 5 of the US Constitution you can call for a convention to propose amendments (a committee, if you will) and any amendments proposals are then submitted to the states to be considered for ratification into amendments to the Constitution. These amendments will control the federal government as the preceding 27 amendments have.

We believe in you! Don’t fail your country!

Remember, cowards are soon forgotten. We know the people who died defending the Alamo, but we don’t know those who simply gave over their towns and cities to the conquerors without even a fight.
